Employees clearly loving what they do, caring about the service and experience they create and the environment they work in, is not easy to achieve. Making it a consistent experience, whoever the customer interacts with, is even harder, but when it happens the effect is simply magic.

Happily, one establishment that has got this spot on is the Candlelight Inn near Chard – I love great food and wine and recently took my lovely step-mum there for dinner. We had been there before for drinks and loved the experience. We commented on how the pub made us feel, relaxed, happy, but couldn’t put it down to just one thing…and although not quite round the corner for me, some 40min drive, we booked in for dinner.

The food was wonderful and the attention and service spot on – everyone we encountered, made us feel noticed, looked after, and special.

We will of course return not just for good food and wine but knowing we will get a wonderful experience – simply joyous.
